Chief Accountant - Croatia & Slovenia (m/f)

        The Chief Accountant Slovenia & Croatia is responsible for ensuring accurate and compliant accounting, statutory reporting, tax compliance, and financial controls for the legal entities in Croatia and Slovenia. The role will lead all local accounting and tax activities, coordinate month-end and year-end closing processes, support audits, and act as the key accounting partner for internal stakeholders and external authorities.

The successful candidate will ensure compliance with local accounting regulations, tax legislation, IFRS requirements, and Haier Europe policies while supporting business growth through strong financial governance and process improvement.

Key responsibilities include:
- Financial Accounting & Reporting: ensuring accurate and timely maintenance of accounting records for Croatian and Slovenian entities by leading month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities, statutory financial statements and related disclosures. Preparing and reviewing balance sheet reconciliations and accounting schedules. Ensuring compliance with IFRS, local GAAP, and Group accounting policies. Supporting consolidation reporting requirements and Group reporting deadlines.
- Tax Compliance: overseeing preparation and submission of VAT, corporate income tax, withholding tax, Intrastat, and other statutory declarations. Monitoring tax and accounting legislation, coordinating external tax advisors and consultants, and managing tax audits, inquiries, and inspections in Croatia and Slovenia.
- Audit & Internal Controls: coordinating annual statutory audits and supporting internal audit activities while ensuring compliance with internal controls and financial procedures. Identifying and mitigating accounting and compliance risks and implementing improvements to strengthen financial controls and operational efficiency.
- Stakeholder Management: acting as the primary contact for external accounting providers, external auditors, tax authorities, banks, and regulatory bodies. Partnering closely with Shared Service Centers, Finance Business Partners, HR, Legal, and operational teams. Providing accounting guidance and support to local management.
- Process Improvement: driving standardization, automation, and optimization of accounting processes. Participating in finance transformation initiatives and ERP (SAP S4/Hana) enhancement projects. Supporting implementation of Group finance policies and best practices.

Uvjeti:
Professional Experience:
- More than 10 years in a senior accounting role within an international company preferably in FMCG, consumer goods, retail, manufacturing, or distribution environments.
- At least 3 years holding a Chief Accountant or similar senior level position with the responsibility for more than one country.
- Strong understanding and experience with statutory accounting and tax requirements in Croatia, and the local regulatory framework, sufficient to effectively oversee and challenge specialist functions, 
- Exposure to Slovenian accounting and tax regulations is highly desirable.
- Proven experience in coordinating outsourced service providers.
- Mature, structured, and business-minded, with sound judgement, a hands-on approach, and a strong sense of integrity and accountability.

Technical Skills/Languages:
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and local GAAP.
- Excellent understanding of Croatian and Slovenian tax regulations.
- Good knowledge of SAP S4/Hana. Advanced Excel skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Fluent Croatian and English, both written and spoken.
- Knowledge of Slovenian is considered an asset.
